Preconference Workshops - Wednesday, November 6, 2002

Three preconference workshops on topics of special interest offer an intensive three and one-half hour learning experience before the bustle of the annual conference begins. Only those registered for the annual conference may register for preconference workshops. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served bases. To register, select the workshops you want to attend on the registration form and add the appropriate fee to your conference registration payment.


Three Institutions, Three New Web-Based Student Services

In the WCET LAAP project, three institutions developed their own personalized Web-based student services. Find out what these new services-academic advising, orientation to academic advising, and learning support services-are like and what was involved in creating them. Learn a few tricks about how to go about re-designing your services, and communicating with the developers of your technology solutions. Leave with a better understanding of the role of your campus's student information system in providing personalized services and the cultural shift in thinking that must occur in institutions to embrace a new way of serving students.

Improving Web Accessibility for Individuals with Disabilities with the WebAIM Training Team

Making your web site accessible to students and staff with disabilities is morally right and legally compelling. It is also very do-able. We'll develop an overall understanding of what accessibility is and how people with disabilities experience the Web. We will also explore the current legal picture with respect to Web accessibility and how you can be a force for positive change in the accessibility of postsecondary education Web materials. Be prepared to use the computer lab to experience accessibility barriers yourself.
