Message from the Chair

chair photoA hearty welcome to the hundreds of returning participants who already are making plans to attend WCET’s premier annual conference.  To those of you who will be first-timers, I guarantee that you will return from WCET’s 19th Annual Conference with a list of valuable contacts to pursue for further networking, new ideas for addressing the e-learning challenges facing your institution or organization as well as a renewed excitement about the potential of information and communications technology to extend access and to enhance the quality of postsecondary educational opportunities.

With the theme E-Learning in Higher Education: Making Good on the Promises, the program is exceptional both in the breadth of topics as well as in the scope and depth of the experienced slate of presenters.  The 2007 Planning Committee has done an outstanding job of assembling a full menu of sessions promising to appeal to all:  emerging and innovative technologies, providing services to promote student retention and academic success, designing quality e-learning programs, national/international trends impacting e-learning, and institutional policies and practices in support of e-learning.

A unique trademark of the WCET annual conference is the collegial atmosphere among veteran attendees and newcomers alike which the conference nurtures by offering  many informal networking and “birds-of-a feather” opportunities.  This is the conference to get re-acquainted with old friends and make new ones, all who share a passion for making a difference in higher education through innovative and effective e-learning practices.

We are especially delighted to be making good on a promise this year to hold our conference east of the Mississippi after having to relocate in 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina.  So come join us at the Omni Hotel at the CNN Center in Atlanta, Georgia, November 7-10, 2007, and enjoy WCET and the wonderful southern hospitality of its local members.  Mark your calendars now…better yet, confirm your spot by registering online today.

I look forward to meeting you in Atlanta!

Mollie McGill
