WOW Award for Marketing E-Learning Initiatives
Call for Entries
In this increasingly competitive higher education marketplace strategic marketing of e-learning initiatives plays a critical role. The WOW Award for Marketing E-Learning Initiatives recognizes achievement and success for strategic marketing campaigns promoting a WCET member's e-learning initiatives in higher education.
Eligibility
WCET members in good standing are eligible to enter the WOW award competition for marketing. Only one entry per member. Campaigns entered for this competition must have been implemented in whole, or in part, between November 2006 and present.
Award Criteria
Winners must provide evidence of meeting the following criteria in their work plan and work sample:
Work Plan
o Addresses a specific need or problem within an institution
o Makes a demonstrable impact on resolving the problem
o Incorporates effective and innovative use of resources and technology within budget
o Overall success of the campaign
Work Sample
o Quality of design and writing
o Appropriate and effective use of media
o Innovative and imaginative approach
o Design supports the campaign goal
Recipient Selection
An independent panel of marketing professionals will act as judges for the competition. Judges may name up to five award winners who will be notified via email in August.
The judges scoring rubric is here. The Work Plan will comprise a total of 60 possible points. The Work Sample will comprise a total of 40 possible points for possible total score of 100.
Entry Requirements
Entries consist of three sections submitted as a single PDF file. The entry packet cannot exceed 12 pages or 8 mg.
- Cover Sheet. This form must be completed in its entirety.
- Work Plan. This predominantly written section of the entry can include a maximum of 2000 words that address the four criteria for the work plan.
- Work Sample. This predominantly visual section of the entry should support the work plan and should address the four criteria for the work sample. Include reduced size visuals of work samples via web optimized jpegs or gifs for judges viewing. You may provide brief descriptions or captions of the images.
Entry Process
Entrants must submit a single pdf file as described above via email to Megan at WCET: mraymond@wcet.info. Megan can also be reached at: 303-541-0233. You will receive an acknowledgement for your entry as it is received by WCET.
There is no fee to enter.

Entrant Recognition
Marketing Fair. As an entrant in the WCET marketing competition, you are invited to participate in WCET's inaugural Marketing Fair on Friday, November 7, 9 am-11:30 am, at the WCET 20th Annual Conference in Phoenix, AZ. Each entrant will have an 8-foot table for displaying actual samples from the campaign, in addition to your work plan. You may bring full size print quality samples to the Marketing Fair. We recommend you bring multiple copies to provide handouts to interested attendees. Be sure to reserve your free table on your entry form cover sheet if you plan to participate in the Marketing Fair. Participants must register for the conference.
CD-ROM. Selected juried entries will be published in the CD-Rom Volume 1 WOW Competition for Marketing E-Learning Initiatives for sharing of best practices. Each entrant will receive will receive two complimentary copies of the CD. CDs will also be distributed to conference attendees. By entering you agree that we can publish your entry to the CD described above.
Recipient Recognition
Recipients of the 2008 WCET Outstanding Work (WOW) Award for Marketing E-Learning Initiatives will be:
- Recognized in a WCET press release.
- Recognized at the 2008 WCET Annual Conference to be held November 5-8, 2008 in Phoenix, Arizona. Recognition includes an award presentation during the Awards Luncheon on Friday, November 7, and participation in a breakout session later that afternoon in which recipients will describe their campaigns. Those being recognized must pay Annual Conference registration fees.
- Granted permission to display the WOW Award logo on their website and printed materials indicating that they have been awarded the 2008 WOW Award for Marketing E-Learning Initiatives.
